Giona Nazzaro has been Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival since 2020 and was a General Delegate of the Settimana Internazionale della Criticà at the Venice International Film Festival from 2016 through 2020. He is a former member of the artistic team of the Rotterdam International Film Festival and is a member of the European Film Academy and the David di Donatello Academy. Previously, Nazzaro worked  with the Eidgenössische Filmkommission in Switzerland, and was a programmer and curator for Visions du Réel  from 2010 to 2020. He has also programmed for the Torino Film Festival, the Festival Dei Popoli in Florence, and the International Rome International Film Festival. He is the author of books and essays on Hong Kong cinema and postmodern action films, and contributes regularly to the daily newspaper 'Il Manifesto' and the weekly 'Film TV'. In 2010, he published a collection of short stories. He is Critic-in-Chief of the monthly music magazine 'Rumore', and curated the art exhibition 'The De/Sign of Cinema' in Cagliari, Italy.
