Mohamed Ben Attia was born in Tunis in 1976. After graduating from the Institut de Hautes Études Commerciales (IHEC) there in 1998, he studied Audio-Visual Communication at the University of Valenciennes. He has directed five short films:  Romantisme (Romantisme, deux comprimés, matin et soir, 2004); Like the Others (Kif lokhrin, 2006), which won the Silver award at FESPACO; Wave (Mouja, 2008); Loi 76 (2011); and Selma (2014), which was selected in the competition at the Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival and won several awards at other festivals. In 2016, Ben Attia directed his first feature-length film, Hedi (Inhebek Hedi), which won the Best First Film Award and the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin International Film Festival, received critical and popular acclaim around the world, and was released in more than 20 countries. His second feature, Dear Son (Weldi) was selected for the Director’s Fortnight at the Festival de Cannes in 2018.
